MEDIA SHALL NOT DICTATE WHAT MY ARMY CHIEF SHALL SAY

Had there been any national priority for Kashmir the Army Chief would not have said what he said. Had Kashmir issue been resolved 50 years ago he wouldn’t have been saluting coffins of his fallen comrades. Had the political leaders irrespective of any party had the will to resolve it, its resolution could have been done before this god damn militancy crept in. Had the politicians of J&K and India been serious about the matter, Kashmiri Hindus would have lived on happily in their homeland? Had Kashmir been on any agenda, Security forces would have remained in the role of guarding the borders and left the law and order situation to the J&K Police and other state organisations. Had this state been a national priority, there would have been no interlocutors required in the first place as no conflict would have been there.

Had Pakistan been seen as a national security threat and enemy number one ab-initio, it would have been sorted out once for all after the 71 war? Had the politicians acted in time, Kashmiri youth would have never crossed over to the other side? Had INDIA been in focus, this separate flag for J&K, darbar moving up and down, separate constitution, article 370 would have been under the Indian national flag and Indian constitution.

Had politicians been serious ever, Kashmir would have remained a paradise. Still there is time, nothing wrong in sorting out the Hurriat, militants, abettors of crime, stone pelters etc. Had there been employment on the agenda, people would not have been on the streets. Had there been education on the schedule, people would think before they act and react as they do today. None of the politicians have done anything to control such mobs. They just condemn it, condone it and sit in their walnut wood houses and watch the tamasha, and wait for a Devine force to sort their state out. If the politicians can’t the army and other forces can, if need be will do it also. We are the means and not the end, if political solution is the solution, then let us get their asses moving and be done with it. Too much blood has been wasted, too many lives lost with no result in site.

These Kashmir’s are so innocent that they don’t carry guns, but carry missiles in forms of stones to target the forces. I agree they don’t want security forces amongst the villages of Kashmir, but why do they hide militants with guns amongst them? Why do they send them across for training? Why do they guide them into our country? Why do they pick up guns in the first place? What motivates them to be in contact with their Paki handlers? Why do they accept funding from Pak? Why the thought of peace eludes them? They have been told that Kashmir is integral part of India, matter ends, if you are going to keep protesting and being violent, you will be dealt with accordingly. Too much of spoon feeding, subsidies, grants and aids have been frittered away for these people only to add to the score of body bags of the armed forces. If you don’t want to obey the law of the land then be prepared to be disciplined as the land decides within it means to make you obey the law.

So what if you are further alienated? So what if you are beaten up, if you don’t behave? So what if every man who conspires with a militant is put in the clink. The path to set you people right has been correctly given in the tone of the Army Chief. It is mutual give and take, you behave, and we behave too. You try and do funny stunts with the forces. We have stunts that shall scare the daylights out of you. Don’t force the armed forces beyond a point. Like you feel you have had enough, so have we. You talk, we talk, but forces don’t politicise. We are fighting a proxy war, an asymmetric war, an insurgency of kinds, militancy so to speak, we are dealing with terrorists with weapons, which you abet, nurture, support, feed, sleep with and fund. What mercy or leniency you want then from the Army? You stop it; we have no issues at all.

I saw in a news paper which had thrown a few questions. Why are the youth so enraged? They are enraged because they don’t know about and don’t want peace. They are enraged because they don’t see and understand that there is life beyond stone pelting. They are enraged because the politicians, separatists, and militants are inciting them; they are enraged because they don’t have either jobs or self employment. They are enraged when subsidy in any form is curtailed. They get enraged because they are uneducated. They are enraged because they were not handled properly when the time was correct. They are enraged because their politicians have failed them completely.

Why are they unafraid of dying? They have nothing better to do but to end their life, that’s why. Every family has so many children from so many wives that looking after them is so difficult that it is better to send a few to die. If one is without a job, without education, cannot earn a living, it is better to die and be of some good to the family as the state government will come rushing with all sorts of aid. Because they have been brain washed to meet the 72 virgins in heaven, where as they miss out on even one on earth. Who will give his daughter to a militant, or an unemployed man? So it is better to die a virgin yourself. At least you will be saved from all mundane issues. That’s why.

Why are the women unafraid? Women are unafraid because too many human rights groups are making a living by supporting them. It is well known that security forces invariably avoid women, so when men get beaten they enter in the fray as shields. Women also get a chance to show solidarity with their brethren for the so called cause. Women take undue advantage of the situations also. I have faced it, while on a patrol my operator asked a lady for the village headman’s house and she started beating her chest and cried rape-rape. When asked, what is rape? She said talking to army men is rape; we had a hearty laugh and moved on.
Why is the Valley back in a phase where local Kashmiri militants outnumber the foreign terrorists? This question should be asked to the politicians and not to the security forces.
Why is an entire population alienated? This is because they don’t want peace. They want to live alienated without understanding the consequences of “Azadi”. Pakistan is on the verge of a catastrophe, it can’t look after its own self; Kashmir’s are unwilling to understand this. The politicians add fuel to the fire by doing sweet nothing and eat away the funds meant to help these people. They are alienated because article 370 says they are Kashmir’s and not Indians. They don’t recognise Government of India because they have been given a lose rope too long. Let there be businesses like all other states, why this special status. Let all politicians who support militancy or Hurriat be shunted out, population alienation will stop automatically.

Well, General Rawat, good that you spoke your mind and we are with you. I would request you to keep giving your mind from time to time. To hell with our media and their ilk, their war rooms are in air conditioned studios with one odd reporter 100kms from the incident site. They just keep looking out for creating controversies. They are paid which is proven beyond doubt, English, Hindi, vernacular makes no difference. They are parasites and create sensationalism only. So Sir bash on regardless. Let us reduce our body count to the minimum. Let us sort out these unruly guys nice and proper so that they never take PANGAs with us. Militants need to be eliminated, and Pakistan needs to be taught a lesson not to dare venture towards our side of the LOC.

In fact let us rewrite the maps sir and have the old International Border (IB) restored in your tenure. Once done all other the issues will be sorted out once for all. Are my countrymen ready to support our Army Chief? I wonder!!!!!!!!!

  1. The present situation has reached after a very prolonged pampering of the Kashmir problem. In retrospect, the Indians, led by Mr Nehru whose dictat ran all through his tenure as PM, misread the character and designs of our neighbours. He considered them to be as simplistic and benevolent as the Indian ethos has kept us, to this day.Well, we were betrayed, both by outsiders and insiders in designing our foreign policy.A hard attitude at that time would not have let us come to this sorry state where we are made to feel guilty even in stating simple facts that (i) Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh form an integral part of India which fact is non-negotiable. Now, for the first time our PM has stated that all the portion of J&K under Pakistani occupation belongs to India and we shall recover it. Just follow the style of China who don't ever forget to frown upon any country inviting Dalai Lama or any of our Central political leadership visiting Arunachal Pradesh today. (ii) All Madrasas must be censored to ensure that anti national subjects are not included in their syllabus. Even Pakistan has blamed the numerous Madrasas opened up by the terrorists in their country where young children are motivated to carry out anti national activities (Hindustan Times 18.02.2017). (iii) aLL CITIZENS OF iNDIA ARE EXPECTED TO BEAR LOYALTY FOR THE NATION as a matter of course. We have had enough of tolerance of anti national activities in other parts of the country as well w/o taking strong harsh/corrective matters against the culprits. Imagine such students in the heart of the country, in JNU in Delhi, finding strong media support to lionise their open acts of sedition. No other country shall accept such leniency.
There is urgent need to instil respect for the nation and its values even if aggressive use of language in conveying this is needed. The COAS has done it and needs to be congratulated for it.

I posted, something similar to Noel Ellis's Article, on Facebook a couple of days ago. I am reproducing it below. Since I am unable to upload it in the Group, I shall be grateful if you can, kindly, do it for me. Many thanks.

*Message From General Bipin Rawat to Our Kashmiri Sisters and Brothers*

What I had learnt right from the day I joined Punjab University as a teenager in Chandigarh was; firstly, to eschew hostility towards anyone as far as possible and, secondly, to keep channels of communication with any belligerents open howsoever difficult they might act. I am happy to say that these beliefs, despite my ‘unaccommodating’ approach on many professional and personal issues, have paid dividends and made things easier for me because in my career in the Army, I was fortunate to be with wonderful teammates and good superiors who I have every professional and personal reason to be proud of. Exceptions only prove the rule.
Right from Madam Mehbooba Mufti of ruling PDP to the Opposition in J & K Assembly led by Abdullahs, almost all politicians from the Kashmir Valley, in unison, have gone on to castigate the Chief of the Army Staff, who in my opinion, delivered a timely message to the traitors that enough is enough. The rabble rousers in the Assembly on both sides of the political fence have, since 1980s till now, had thirty plus years to bring about peace through dialogue and negotiations including with our neighbor to the West, which latter we tried our utmost to engage with in a positive manner albeit unsuccessfully. Army rendered to Kashmir Goverment unqualified service and support with civic action and the men in uniform sharing a part of their food and facilities with our Kashmiri brothers and sisters. They, Armed Forces and the population, are aware that the mess, we find in Kashmir Valley, is made by the same political leaders through indifferent and poor governance. We have tried to bring into main stream all the political leaders of the Valley through these decades while they have been living off the Indian Nation with subsidies and central aid despite the fact of their own mismanagement of the State and its politics to stay in power in order to fill their pockets at the expense of development of the State, especially the regions of Jammu and Ladakh. If anything has been missing from the rest of the Indian nation so far was the appropriate response to the terror perpetrated by the indigenous and foreign proxies of our Western neighbor. These truths need to be understood by all Indians including my Kashmiri brothers and sisters who perhaps ignore the state of the Kashmiri (Indians) in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. ContdIn short, we have pussyfooted in the Valley for far too long.

  3. Part -2

    Email from Brig Subhash Joshi

Army, Assam Rifles and Central Police Forces have tried to contain the violence and political mess, with a fair degree of success, despite a hand tied behind their back exercising utmost restraint while the trouble makers have continuously made ‘mountains out of depressions rather than mole hills’ a la the shooting of the wayward teenagers who refused to stop at a military check point and a terror monger called Burhan Wani who finally got what he gave innocent Kashmiris using arsenal provided from across the line of control. In a situation like that, what does a commander say to his troops (??) – does he tell them, “Never mind, Burhan Wani, was a very nice young man; therefore, we shall prostrate before those who pelted stones at our colleagues or killed our soldiers in Uri etc and apologise.”

Media friends you are fully aware of the facts above but sensation, unfortunately, remains your ultimate deity.
I believe that there is no compromise with traitors and belligerents from a position of weakness. What does Madam Mehbooba Mufti, whose release was secured through release of dreaded terrorists when her Father was the Union Home Minister, want (??) – release some more terrorists or invite them into Valley and rest of India and to spread more terror.
The Nation may seriously consider suggesting to the Hurriyat leaders and their ilk to go across to Pakistan and demand that Pakistan vacate POK and let two parts of Kashmir unite and then support their call to India to give ‘freedom’ to the whole of Kashmir. I have every reason to believe that Pakistan will unheistatingly terminate them with full prejudice. We are tolerant …….. yes, but 1971 happened.

Let me now explain the unaccommodating and uncompromising bit. It simply means that where matters of ethics (read national integrity in Kashmir Valley presently) are involved, no compromise is acceptable. Many have considered my approach ‘unethical’ including a few bosses of mine in my military service and they have not ‘accommodated’ my ‘ethics’ approach and had the power to harm me somehow or the other but, God has been kind. I have done reasonably well in my military career and elsewhere thereafter despite certain ‘accommodators’ who used all in their power including match fixing, parochialism and their authority derived essentially from ‘sycophancial’ proximity to the boss or their other similar traits. It is with this background that I had set about writing on the developments following the statement of the Chief of Army Staff wherein he categorically stated that he will have no reservations about targeting those who display Pakistani and ISI flags and their supporters in the civilian population in the Valley.
The Nation must support the endeavour and policy espoused by the Chief; I am sure the truth is not lost on Madam Mehbooba, Abdullahs and others :there is no realpolitik involved here ……... it is simply common sense.

    Fond regards,
    Subhash Joshi
